History of Tyre - Ancient

Tyre was one on the pricipal cities of the Phoenician coast and probably the first to issue coinage. These Phoenician cities never actual established an alliance and no country of "Phoenicia" ever existed. Although the area was always known as Phoenician (purple-red) by other ancient people, they themselves probably used the name Canonites.
