History of Seleucus IV of Syria Seleucus IV inherited a defeated and bankrupt kingdom from his father with yearly reparation payments to Rome. He was forced to levy high taxes and austerity on the country right on the heals of the apparent glamorous reign of Antiochus III prior to his defeat. Due to the necessary austerity his reign was inglorious and eventually resulted in his assassination. |
